New Work

Silverpoint’s latest project is one I’ve been waiting to announce for a long time. The process of designing the site was one of the most involved I’ve ever taken on, but the end result is so worth it.

As is always the case with Silverpoint projects, a good design benefited from great production, and it was one of those rare instances in which once you start placing content into the site you’ve created, you realize that the design really, seamlessly works for just about anything you can throw at it. sIFR came to our rescue in so many ways, and using it judiciously in concert with the school’s great photography and the basic design outline created the exact effect I was aiming for—pages that looked like they were torn from a book, not generated by code. This was a dream project; I can only hope that all my projects turn out as well as this one did.

Today, the dentist’s office called to confirm my brother’s appointment for tomorrow. And there’s this woman named Marie who’s been the receptionist there for as long as I’ve been alive
and she’s always been the one to call and confirm the appointments. So today i answered the phone and she said “Hi, this is Marie from Dr. Tillery’s office” and I said “Oh, hi Marie,” and before i could get the words out of my mouth she started saying “I’m calling to confirm…” Then she paused sort of unnaturally, and said “John Thomas,” then resumed speaking in her normal voice.

At that point I realized that they had automated Marie! It was a Mariebot. I was floored.

I’m getting old.
