I am Matt Thomas.

An enigma, wrapped in a paradox, inside a jelly donut.

Video of the Android touch interface I don’t understand the comments on this so far. I don’t see myself turning in the iPhone for an Android phone, but it’s clear they’ve done a few things so much more nicely than the iPhone (custom unlock gestures instead of requiring a separate password, for one). And that’s not hard to believe, because it’s been over a year since the iPhone’s interface was first released, and there’s clearly some talented designers working at Google. I imagine future iterations of iPhone OS will borrow some concepts from Android as well. Who’s served by pretending that the user interface design for Android isn’t developing nicely?

Scott McClellan grows a conscience The former White House press secretary sticks it to the man, only two years after it could have possibly made a difference.

BCBE Historic Schools Project I wonder if the lovely but neglected former Baldwin County High School building in Bay Minette (now an unused shell on the campus of Bay Minette Intermediate School), which the BCBE has been threatening to tear down for years, is considered a “Historic School?”

BCBE Blog Everything comes full-circle—the first job I had as a web designer was with the BCBE, who now has a WordPress blog. They don’t seem to be actively using it. I hope that changes; it could be really useful for the system (school closures and breaking info via RSS? Heck yeah.) if they put it to use. The IT department has a blog as well.

Unfortunately, their new logo and web site are truly atrocious.

Hey, Mobile has an Apple Store after all! Ok, fine, it’s an “Apple Shop,” and it’s one table in the middle of Best Buy. But it’s something. I guess when I said I’d take a “mini” store, I should have specified how mini.

That Camel Will Never Walk Again

Keith Olbermann, on Hillary Clinton’s revolting suggestion that continuing her failed primary campaign makes sense because “we all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California:”

[Your] actions open a door wide into the soul of somebody who seeks the highest office in this country, and through that door shows something not merely troubling, but frightening.

... This, Senator, is too much. Because a senator—a politician—a person—who can let hang in mid-air the prospect that she might just be sticking around in part, just in case the other guy gets shot—has no business being, and no capacity to be, the President of the United States.

Blog of Rights The ACLU has relaunched their blog with a great new design and a really great piece of software—WordPress (of course). It’s fitting that an organization dedicated to protecting civil liberties is using open-source software!

California State Supreme Court says same-sex couples have right to marry

In a 4-3 decision, the justices said the state’s ban on same-sex marriage violates the “fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship.” The ruling is likely to flood county courthouses with applications from couples newly eligible to marry when the decision takes effect in 30 days.

Fundamentalists, start your engines.
