I am Matt Thomas.

An enigma, wrapped in a paradox, inside a jelly donut.

I don’t even recognize myself anymore.

Strip Clubs, the last refuge for all night drinkers in S.C. I’ll assume you went because it was the last place open after 2 am. I had that problem in Charleston. All the bars would shut down at 2 am and only the strip clubs were open. Personally, I find strip clubs to be dens of depravity, which give center stage to societies most down and out, who are selling their only marketable skill to the drunk and desperate. The typical client is some old man fondling his crabbed member while he vainly attempts to relive some long ago drunken conquest that occurred behind the dumpster in the back parking lot of Solomon’s.

Well, we found out quickly that at least at the Gold Club, the alcohol stops at midnight Sunday. The bars here in Georgia are open ‘til 3 anyways. The real reason I went was primarily because I was asked; my friend is getting married, after all. But also because it was not a place that I ever even considered going before in my life, and I figured it’s something everyone should see.

It was an eye opening experience for sure. A den of depravity? Absolutely. But I can’t consider myself liberal about sex without recognizing the right of a young lady or man to dance in their underpants in front of strangers. To each her own.

    Colonel,

Poetic. Fucking poetic man… You just said something that ironically reminds me of why I started drinking in the first place, and why I must stop immediately.

Most of the girls that work the strip clubs are not necessarily society’s down and out. If you checked into it, alot of them are college girls working their way through school, and single moms supporting their children – not everyone has a major scholarship or a wealthy family to pay their way. Others are caught up in the fast, easy money that dancers can pull in. But, to label these girls as the ‘down and out’ just because they cater to horny, sex starved men is just plain silly. Strip clubs are just another type of business that has its good and bad sides.
