Introducing Prologue

January 28, 2008

At the Automattic offsite last week, Joseph Scott and I created a new WordPress theme called Prologue—a short-form group blogging theme inspired by Twitter. You can see it in action in this live demo.

Prologue is available now on WordPress.com and, of course, open source and available to use with your self-hosted WordPress blog.

    Hi Matt,

First of all I’d like to thank you for the Prologue Theme : this was exactly what I was looking for !! I’m leaving school next March to start my internship and I was trying to code a small twitter-like php-mysql app to keep in touch with my friends… (maybe it’s missing something to put audio comment more easily with an embeded flash sound recorder…)

I take one hour to translate it in french and now i’m near to spread it. But what about copyright ? Am I allowed to change your code and to spread it ?

Thomas: I’m glad you like it! It’s really cool to see that already people are finding uses for Prologue. As mentioned in the release announcement, Prologue is open source under the GPL, so hack away at it. :)

    Hi Matt,

#1. Is it possible to make Prologue a plugin?

I have significantly modified my current theme – how can I add Prologue without losing the work I’ve put into my current theme? Perhaps I could spend … 12 hours(?) adding bits from the Prologue theme into my theme, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that does not succeed. Perhaps I should create a new blog just for Prologue, but I want my blog searches to find what is written throughout my site.

#2. I know I can choose which template I want to apply to a page or (via a plugin) a category. Can I apply a whole theme to a subsection of my blog?

    Thanks

Have your say
