iPhone Mania
June 20, 2007
iPhone mania nears fever pitch The din over the iPhone is really getting out of control. Not surprisingly, more and more of it is wildly speculative fear over the iPhone’s possible shortcomings. My favorite line from this (otherwise OK) USA Today article:
Many bloggers have estimated battery time as low as 45 minutes.
Many bloggers? 45 minutes? I don’t think anyone reputable, blogger or not, actually thinks the iPhone’s battery life is going to be 45 minutes. Good thing that the Rules of Journalism apparently don’t require you to provide sources when you’re quoting bloggers.

I haven’t come across a single person who is losing sleep over the prospect of not getting an iPhone the day it comes out. I’m not saying there’s no anticipation for it, but I think the Apple fanboy contingent is causing enough noise to fool “journalists” into thinking everyone is just dying to hand over another $500 to Apple (and however much for service every month).
A committed non-fanboy, I’ll wind up treating the iPhone like the RAZR: dying to get it when it first comes out, but figuring I’ll hold off for a while and by the time I really need to replace my phone I’ll find there are better options out there for me.
In the coming days leading to June 29, there is an air of paranoia. The automobile will be sold on June 29th and look at the horse and buggies run.
Look at history…..they all made fun of the automobile….couldn’t stop putting it down. Nothing has changed. Say what you want…Apple is a winner.
What is an iphone? I like the look of this jitterbug phone that I keep reading so much about. I hear it is going to have the flip open feature. Will your precious iphone have that?
Fever pitch? Yawn. :)
Amongst those of us who can actually purchase one, Donncha ;)
