Mixed Feelings

February 16, 2006

Update: Well, despite my other problems, there is a bright spot—Apple is sending me a new 512mb stick of RAM to replace the one they lost.

Good: Today I received my PowerBook, which I sent away for service on Monday. The issue for which it was sent off appears to have been fixed, and in the process, they replaced the top case module assembly which was marred by pitting aluminum (mine was twice as bad as that guy’s).

Bad: While the new top case assembly looks great, the button on the trackpad requires a lot more force to depress than my old one, which is really taking some getting used to.

Ugly: After booting up, I noticed that the ‘Book seemed to be running slow. That’s partially because in the process of having it repaired, a 512mb stick of memory was either lost or stolen. I’m now waiting “one to two business days” to hear back from Apple as they look for the chip. What happens when they inevitably don’t find it, I don’t yet know. The most likely scenario: I cough up $70 for a new chip while cursing AppleCare under my breath.

That sucks man. I’ve got a G5 which I’ve had to get serviced twice now. One for a faulty modem, second for the 23” display having a faulty power brick.

You would think when you send in a product that’s having “power issues” they would check the power brick. Instead they replaced the LCD panel and sent it back, same problem. So I had the local apple tech’s order a new power brick on Apple’s tab.

    Other than that no problems.

    Magnificent! Or not.

Anywho, I would like to consider our first meeting for the cheese’s b-day as a “preseason” match up for the car-bomb-a-thon. It wasn’t properly done because I had to leave so quickly. But fret not, it will happen. Be afraid. Or don’t be afraid. What ever gets you to sleep at night.

Still waiting for that magical phonecall. Good to see you got your computer back though.

Have your say
