Hah @ Lloyd—yes, everything seems to be working perfectly now. The installer ran a new cable line to the house, and I also now have a brand-new modem instead of the very old and unreliable one I had before. I’ve got my fingers crossed because I am loving having some speed, and I don’t want it to end.
Dr. Mike—It’s not nice to brag. ;) Honestly, though—what I wouldn’t give for 5Mbps of upload speed!
Crazy. I had the exact same problem, when upgrading from 1 Mbps DSL (Gulftel, Orange Beach, Alabama) to Mediacom’s 15 Mbps Online Max. Still haven’t gotten near the rated speed (getting about half), but I solved the issue of specific sites never loading when I remembered to set up OpenDNS by putting in their DNS servers into the connection settings. Make sure you have your ISP’s recommended DNS servers everyone! Or use OpenDNS, it has cool features, lets me monitor my network, and is faster than my old ISP’s servers were.
And web pages load in both Firefox and Safari? ;-)
:)
