I don’t understand what the fuss is about—there is some odd and fairly well specious argument about some sort of concrete connection between microsoft and intel, when in truth, it could have gone the opposite way, if Apple had decided to use the x86 architecture instead (which, coincidentally is in is twilight years in the server marketplace; a bellweather of sorts for the desktop market). I remember the whole RISC/CISC debate of a decade or so ago, and I think Mac is just kinda coming around to the notion that they did at least one thing wrong back then. I think ultimately it is a great idea. Well, barring the likelyhood that Cupertino will probably work some proprietary voodoo to keep their closed business model tight, which burns the ass offa people like me, knowing that Tiger is built on BSD, an open source project.

You probably will, Sally—in some of the interviews Apple brass were giving after the keynote, Apple said they wouldn’t be making any efforts themselves to get Windows running on the new Intel-powered Macs, but that they wouldn’t do anything to stop it, either.

This is a boon for Mac-based designers, as we’ll theoretically be able to keep a copy of Windows on hand for testing web designs in Internet Explorer (which will undoubtedly still suck by the time the Intel Macs make it to market), all without having to shell out extra for a (desperately slow) copy of Virtual PC.

I find it midly entertaining. Sorry to see that Apple will not allow clones, but you should see a direct impact on Apple portables—laptops, possibly tablets, and potentially cheaper Mac Minis.
