Snow on the Dashboard
November 24, 2005
It’s a little too dark to capture the sight of my first snow in Baltimore by photographic means, but I just saw OS X Tiger’s snow graphic for the first time and it’s pretty beautiful.

It’s even nicer than the real snow outside.

One might be inclined to wonder why you are checking the D.C. weather, which is usually a few degrees different than the weather in the city where you actually live.
Are you—mayhaps—one of those guys who, when asked by people where you live, say “The DC/Baltimore area”?
I know, it’s tempting to try and wash your hands of Charm City in certain company.
I’m not sure how you suspect I thought I was fooling anyone, since I said “first snow in Baltimore.†Perhaps you’re just concerned that my love for your city is insufficient?
As soon as I posted that I said to myself, “someone from Baltimore is going to come bitching that I used the DC weather for the screenshot.†I’ve learned at least that much so far.
Wanna know a secret?
I like Baltimore about as much as I like persistent toe fungus. I didn’t grow up here, I went to school 2 miles from the DC line, and frankly, I’ll be happily gone within a few months.
I am one of those aforementioned people who deny any allegiance with Baltimore—especially any such fidelity that might be inferred from geographic proximity.
I was just being observant in my inimitably clever way. I’d actually recommend D.C. to you; it’s far more popular with the iPod and Ikea crowd.
