Stinson
July 26, 2007
It’s early on day 4 of the Automattic offsite. The trip’s been productive and fun, as working together has given us the chance to quickly develop some cool enhancements to your favorite Automattic projects.
Monday was a full-day session with Robert Hoekman, Jr., author of Designing the Obvious, required reading for anyone who designs web applications. Robert also presented a session at WordCamp aimed specifically at bloggers and blog design, so it was great to get to pick an expert’s brain for a few days. We got to analyze a few areas of WordPress.com and you’ll be seeing the fruits of our labor shortly with some small, but significant improvements.
Aside from work, we’ve all had a good time enjoying the beautiful sights of Stinson Beach, playing a bit of Wii Sports, and consuming an army’s supply of beer. Automattic’s newest addition, Nikolay Bachiyski (in Bulgarian!) brought along a Bulgarian liquor called rakia that was a big hit. Some of the more adventurous in the crowd donned the wet suits and hit the waves, but with a water temperature hovering somewhere around 40ยบ, I decided to reaffirm my reputation as a landlubber.
Two days left, then it’s back to San Francisco for the weekend. Then, I’ll be taking a week off as Johnathan and I get ready for our big move to New Orleans. Whew.
